1993. 4x4. 118K miles. rear shackles replaced. He says "lots of rust". I think the rust part is keeping me away from this.... but its only 900$... And it runs.

If it runs, why haven't you already at least look at it? Just so long as it isn't all in the frame, MEGA NP. Even if it is rusted out though, it should have a good powertrain.

F150 drivetrain + frame +interior = pretty sure worth $900. I can't believe I'm saying it (usually not a fan of the practice so much), but find a vintage cab needing running gear and restomod ye a truck.

it just got listed today and i just found it now haha.
Im looking for a beater truck. Not a project truck. Ill put in some work, but i wont do a complete engine or frame swap haha. I think ill give the guy a shout out though.

Im hesitant on the ford part. Are these year models the more reliable ones? its got a 5.0L.
And i dont want a project. Just a beater truck to winter drive, plow, and do truck things with.

Doesn't Jalopnik have that Under $2000 As Long As It Runs rule?

By 5.0 I suspect we mean 302? Decent enough engine if kept running, might go manky if it sits with that EFI setup - eth gas to be avoided like the plague.
Beater truck duty, I'd definitely say it'll do. Fill any and all comfort-affecting/break the truck into pieces holes or cracks with caulk like the emperor of all rednecks, I mean a sir.
Might need some front suspension work by this time, but that's more a maybe, as I don't recall lifespan on the 4wds as well as the 2wds.

im honestly not sure the ad is not super clear... he says 5.0 and then puts eight....

This ad goes against the usual craigslist no-no's which is my only concern.

usually thats if it has a 5spd. and preferably 2 doors. But ive been told a truck in any condition is a bargain at under 1,000 bucks.

Duck tape, bondo go... Wonder how bad that Benz runs behind it, might be more fun. Especially if the guy is like yea the Benz sucks, 1100 for both. Replace the cat or remove it and enjoy.

I have a friend with an Eddie Bauer F-150 that color and rust free, a 94 he likes a lot. It has the 351, so I'd have to assume the '93 has a 302. I think the cab area on it should be reasonably solid, typical fender/other rust notwithstanding. I'd just make sure nothing dire is structurally wrong and maybe expect to replace some brake lines or whatnot.

Sweet. And he seems to have good reliability with it? You think its an eddie bauer edition? The rust is the biggest thing on this. He says 'lots of rust' so i have my doubts, but hes literately 10 miles from me so i might as well check it out.

He's had pretty decent reliability with it, and the early 80s one (IIRC) that my dad for a while had was pretty good. My friend's was very well taken care of by a doting owner, though, and doesn't have quite that many miles on it.
The one in your picture is definitely not an Eddie Bauer, if for no other reason than they were fairly limited and 94/95 only. No, it's more middle optioned. "A lot" could mean quite a few things, but as long as it's not structural (like was in a Range Rover I stripped for parts) and is just fenders/bumpers/bed/etc. and not frame or suspension crippling, I'd imagine it's a decent beater for his asking price.

Depends. If it runs it's probably worth near that in parts and scrap. The 302 kind of really sucks for truck things though. Give me a 300 any day of the week. Also, these trucks have a propensity to have major components underneath fail due to rust. It probably needs or has had: brake lines, front spring horns, rear spring hanger "j's", and rear shackles. These trucks eat brakes and ball joints, so count on needing them to be safe. I've also seen quite a few break leaf springs at the eye. That isn't apparent until you get the rear wheels off the ground. The cost of these parts will outweigh the low asking price. However, I'd still look it over. If those things are taken care of or some how are okay, they were generally very reliable old trucks that combine old school toughness with some of the modern comfort and ease of driving you find in new trucks.

It's a 94 f250 with a 460 v8 auto. I bought it a few months ago with 298,000 miles and a 20,000 tranny in it.
I paid $1100. Very happy with it. It makes a great hauling truck.

If its the I6 its worth it to take the drivetrain. But the 302 v8 can be had for a few hundred bones any day of the week. So not much worth there. Could be worth a few hundred bucks worth of steel though. Maybe buy to part out.

i came across this earlier 1984 f150. with an I6. Is this the better deal? And you know anything about this particular year range?

I have no complaints so far. I've put roughly 500 miles on it so far.
Pros:
The interior is quite comfortable.
The ride is decent.
There's a ton of room inside and in the bed.
Very little rust.
Almost everything works.
Cons:
The gas mileage is beyond terrible. Single digits.
The driver's side window doesn't work with the switch, but you can push it up and down manually.
I only got it for hauling / towing so as you can imagine it's perfect for what I needed.
